If you don't already know (where have you been?), Intelligent Design is the name for smug idea that goes like this:

"Everything looks "made", therefore there must be a God to have made it."

This is supposed to be the wagging tongue in the face of "those" scientists that are trying to get God out of the picture.

I've decided to post my best argument against intelligent design. Here goes.

Intelligent design hinges proof of God on our understanding. To put it simple - Smart Universe = God. Dumb Universe = No God? Of course not. Prove that the universe is stupid and people will still believe in God, they'll just come up with a reason why God wanted the universe to be stupid.

Therefore - God can not defined by our understanding. His existence should be considered independent of our level of amazement. Put it simple? It's still about belief. There is no proof of God.

Belief is belief and science is science. Science is a discussion amongst people who don't mind questioning belief. Belief is for people who don't want to question (much).

If you want to be a questioning believer I suggest you at least entertain multiple ideas of how God did/does what you believe he did/does. Realize belief for what it is. You can't "prove" it. Ideas can be proven. That is to say - you can have an idea about something and determine whether that idea can be used to understand the world around us. You may find that your ideas are wrong, but you will never find that your belief is wrong. Will you?

"And that's all I got to say about that, uh humm."

.

Richards:

Wouldn't it be nice if we could compile a list of things that white folks are banned from doing? Can't act too black. Can't act too white. Can't say 'Nigger'. etc. etc. etc.

That would help us white people from flubbing up. Okelly-Dokely?

Of course we would have to admit the list was fundamentally racist. What? Yeh. You have to single out white people based on their skin before you can define what they can and cannot do.

Come to think of it - isn't it racist to be mad at Mr Richards for saying the word when we aren't up in arms about Dre doing so?

It WAS an insensitive comment, but really - why did it get so much attention? Hmm. Because he has white skin. Quite a philosophical circle...

btw, I don't see this guy as a hero or villain. He just used a word. So what. He didn't kill or rape anyone. If you go to a comedy club expecting to hear "nice" words you are stupid. The real thing I'm writing about is the phenomena itself. I really could care less if it were this guy or the next.

hope you enjoyed the goat love... and now for our reading from the text...

I heard the other day that there is more proof to support "the bible" (the current accepted translation - ie. *poof*) than there is for "evolution" (haha-*poof*). I've since begun to question my definition of proof. To further the irony of the situation, I was offered "proof" against evolution ,not from the bible but in the form or criticisms of the current accepted interpretation of the evolution theory.

Do you have to research something to understand it? No. Do you have to know what you are talking about in order to talk? Negative. Do you have to have read the bible or anything on evolution to have strong opinions about either? Don't think so.

Just like you don't have to care about who is elected, what they stand for or why our people die in foreign countries. I can't recall the last time I heard someone say - "I wish I knew enough about (that) to have an opinion."

Nobody knows where we came from or where we are going. There are obvious reason for that. Different people take different approaches when it comes to guessing. But these are guesses.

My point is that people really should understand the nature of the guess. Belief and Reason are two opposite approaches. Proof belongs to reason - not to religion. Doubt that, I dare you!

So what subjects do you know nothing about? Let me hear how strongly you feel about them. I'll respect your answers as proof (sarcasm).

.

http://www.positiveatheism.org - another bit of fodder for my atheism with no edges campaign, I hope.

I thought I'd post this link for all you atheist readers out there (haha). I ran across this site while doing a research paper on Edison and Tesla... (I hate structured writing - go figure). If you are just tuning in, I'm trying to promote a nicer version of atheism than your local pastor or metalhead. We are human - the good and the bad... not all evil. There are some really cool quotes at that site. Check them out. Some ideas you might not have thought about but can really identify with, or not.

I'm interested to hear what people have to say.

Home Automation Dreams: something that matters

Home automation. I'd bet I'm not going to get anyone hard with this topic; I'm content with that, but if this is your bag then feel free to share your ideas. Onward to adventure....

Today I got three space heaters, a motion sensing light switch, and a programmable thermostat for my house. ( Woo Hoo!!! Why don't more people get excited about this type of thing? ) I've bookmarked some pages relevant to my struggles with the thermostat - it was a little wrestling and some worry (AC/Heater units are a couple $K, or so). I got it working and now I'm happy about programming temperatures and increasing efficiency, etc. I got excited about having the thermostat tied in to a home computer system responsible for stats and control. The motion sensor switch really got my mind moving, it's far from perfect. Now we get to the nut-meat... yum.

if you click on that crab it will give you some music to listen to for a little while.
20-30+ minutes of chill courtesy a friend from SectionZ...
are you going to waste the chance??? hmmm...

    Here's what I want, though:

    1) In some cases I want the light to come on and go off when I enter and leave the room for a short period of time (to grab something real quick-like).

    2) At times, I would like to enter the room and stay for a while without the lights going out.

I don't want to hit the switches or really do anything.

The sensor I have now will go out after 5 seconds - this works for the first scheme but falls short on the second. I can adjust it to stay on for up to 20 minutes - this partly works for the second situation and fails miserably on the first. I could make the plan work better if I installed a door switch. Lights go off when the door is closed (like a refridgerator). I'd still only have a partial solution to the second scheme. I should add, there is a manual switch but that defeats my purpose.

So how do I get the second scheme to work? And how do I get the lights to dim on and dim off ( I think that would be cool)???

There is a practical issue for the starter home auto afficianado. In the future I will entertain ideas like mood settings/recall, action sounds (eg. gentle whoosh sound when door opens or lights dim on), vocal prompts, user settings recall, and other cool stuff. It's all about mood, control, audio, (video?), and lighting. I think these are practical dreams that can effect the mood and lifestyle of me and my peeps. We'll see.

Do any of you people dig this type of thing? What are your dreams for your house (so I can steal them)???

.

yuck! I just viewed this post in Internet Explorer... sorry, IE users... I'm not going to try and fix it.. it's not really worth it for just a little picture of a living room and a two lines of text that run together. Sorry. And eeew, gross - nasty!

.
